Penny is an independent Occupational Therapist and Case Manager with many years of experience as a clinician and as a manager in the health service, social services and social housing sectors. Since 1998, Penny has been working independently, predominantly providing person-centred assessments and support for people with a disability or mental health challenge, and providing information for family and carers alike.
Penny has extensive experience (both as a clinician and as a consultant) in setting up, reviewing and monitoring community care packages, recommending necessary equipment or adaptations, providing telecare services, implementing the ‘Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards’ (DoLS), working with individuals and families to determine whether a client possesses the mental capacity to be able to make specific decisions and assisting individuals and families in deciding whether they should proceed with setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney. In addition, Penny has considerable experience working with clients with head injuries, spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis and other complex neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease and dementia.
Penny uses a solution focused approach to help clients establish their needs and wishes, to ascertain existing internal and external resources and to identify any further support which might help them to achieve their goals and ambitions. Penny works with her clients to empower them to make the most of their lives. She works tirelessly to help build resilience and to enable them to achieve those occupations which are important to them.
Penny is a member of the Case Management Society UK and the British Association of Brain Injury Case Manager. She is also Acing Chair of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section - Independent Practice.
Penny is a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and Acting Chair of the Specialist Section - Independent Practice. Penny has been a committee member (treasurer) of the UK Association for Solution Focused Practice (UKASFP); and a volunteer befriender at a respite centre for suicidal adults and a board member of a housing association providing accommodation for older people.
